Who writes our content
Every guide on Pure Beauty Ways is written or edited by Henry Foster, who has grown houseplants and garden plants for 25 years. His name appears on every article, and you can reach him at henry@purebeautyways.com.
How we choose topics
We write about the plants and problems US readers actually ask about: popular houseplants, common garden plants and flowers, herbs and vegetables, and the problems that come up again and again, such as yellow leaves, pests and plants that won’t flower. We also listen to questions sent in by readers.
How we research and fact-check
Start from experience
Guides begin with practical, hands-on knowledge of how plants behave in real homes and gardens.
Check reliable sources
Care requirements, botanical names and hardiness are checked against university extension services (such as NC State Extension), botanical gardens and horticultural references. Pet toxicity is checked against the ASPCA’s toxic and non-toxic plant database.
Cite what we used
Each guide ends with a “Sources and further reading” section linking to the references we relied on, so you can check them yourself.
Write for real people
We use plain US English, short sentences and clear steps, aiming for text anyone from middle school up can follow.
Safety comes first
Whenever a plant is toxic to pets or people, we say so plainly and include the ASPCA Animal Poison Control and Poison Control phone numbers. We don’t give medical or veterinary advice, and we don’t recommend eating or using plants as medicine. See our disclaimer.
Photos
Where we don’t yet have our own photos, we use freely licensed images from Wikimedia Commons and credit the photographer and license under every image. We’re gradually replacing these with original photos. Photos show the plant generally and may not show the exact variety described.
Use of AI tools
We may use software tools, including AI writing assistants, to help with research, outlining and drafting. The author named on each article is responsible for its content, checks it against the sources listed on the page, and corrects it when readers report a problem.
Updates and corrections
Every guide shows a “Last updated” date. We review guides regularly and whenever readers point out a problem. Factual errors are corrected promptly. If a correction changes the meaning of the advice, we note it on the page.
